Indonesia's National Internship Programme adds disabled participants

Indonesia launched the 2026 edition of its National Internship Programme (PMN) with a target of 150,000 participants. The scheme, initiated by President Prabowo Subianto and announced by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, expands eligibility to include people with disabilities, a move described by analyst Igor Dirgantara as a progressive step toward inclusive employment.

Interns receive a monthly stipend of roughly Rp3.5 million to Rp6 million, adjusted to the local minimum wage. For example, participants placed in Jakarta earn about Rp5.8 million per month. The six‑month placements provide mentorship from senior staff, and in the previous year about 30 % of interns secured permanent jobs. The programme aims to reduce open unemployment and supply skilled workers to industry.

Political observers note the inclusive element addresses a long‑standing concern about job access for disabled Indonesians, while the financial incentives are intended to make the internships attractive across regions beyond Java.
