Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency implements budget reforms
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) of Indonesia has implemented new incentive mechanisms for its Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program to optimize state spending. Under the new rules, which took effect on October 5, 2026, the previous flat daily incentive of Rp6 million per kitchen has been replaced by a per-portion payment of Rp2,000. This change aims to ensure that payments reflect actual service volumes, as the previous flat rate applied to kitchens regardless of whether they served 1,000 or 3,000 portions.
BGN Head Sudaryono projects that this shift will save the state approximately Rp3 trillion by the end of December 2026.
Separately, the BGN has returned Rp160.37 billion to the state treasury following an audit by the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK). The refund addresses findings from the 2025 financial report, specifically regarding duplicate virtual account (VA) numbers found in 75 out of 79 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) and non-compliance in budget accountability. The agency has deactivated access to the duplicate accounts to prevent further issues.
