Indonesia's OJK says no bank rush risk amid rupiah weakness, cites 17,150 illegal finance complaints
OJK executive Dian Ediana Rae told a press conference that, despite the rupiah’s recent weakness, there is no potential for a bank run in Indonesia. She cited a capital adequacy ratio of 23.97 % and a non‑performing loan ratio of 2.17 % as of April 2026, and said the country’s political, security and economic situation remains conducive. OJK will keep close monitoring of foreign‑exchange exposure and liquidity risks in banks.
The regulator also disclosed that it had received 17,150 complaints about illegal financial entities between 1 January and 20 May 2026. Of these, 14,380 involved illegal online lending, 2,601 concerned illegal investment schemes and 124 related to unlawful pawn‑shop practices. The task‑force PASTI has already shut down 951 illegal online lenders and other fraudulent operations.
