Indonesia’s People’s Schools Receive Guidance from Social Ministers

Indonesia’s new People’s Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) programme held a virtual consolidation and briefing for 191 headmasters of existing and new schools on 6‑8 July 2026 in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. Vice Minister for Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono stressed that headmasters must act as “patriots” and “agents of change” to break inter‑generational poverty through education, describing the schools as a “golden bridge” for disadvantaged children. He urged leaders to ensure professional, transparent, and accountable management of the boarding‑school facilities.

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) similarly called for empathy, integrity and strict anti‑bullying measures, promising immediate dismissal for any sexual or physical violence. He highlighted the multi‑entry, multi‑exit curriculum designed for students who have dropped out, and announced cooperation with the military academy Taruna Nusantara to improve dormitory management. Gus Ipul also demanded uniform standards across all People’s Schools, stating, “There will be no second‑class People’s Schools; all must have the same quality and standards.”
