Indonesia raises Pertamax price, spurring driver cutbacks and fuel‑station queue problems

Effective 10 June 2026, Pertamina Patra Niaga increased the price of non‑subsidised Pertamax (RON 92) from Rp 12,300 to Rp 16,250 per litre and Pertamax Green 95 from Rp 12,900 to Rp 17,000. Public‑policy analysts said the hike is intended to shield the rupiah and ease pressure on the state budget.

In Yogyakarta, workers such as Nuryanto and Rahmadhan report shortening trips, cycling locally and avoiding the long queues that now average 10‑20 minutes at Pertalite stations. They continue to use Pertamax despite higher costs, citing time‑saving benefits over subsidised fuel.

Hyundai Indonesia offered practical tips – proper tyre pressure, regular engine maintenance, smooth acceleration, low idle RPM and use of ECO mode – to mitigate the impact of higher fuel expenses.

At SPBU Hawai Sentani in Papua, a two‑day suspension of subsidised solar sales was imposed after drunken drivers disrupted the queue. The station, the region’s sole solar‑subsidy provider, supplies about 13 tonnes of subsidised fuel daily and 5 tonnes of Pertamax. Service has since resumed under stricter queue management.
