Indonesia's PLN adds 100 MW to Kalimantan grid as plant restarts

An Independent Power Producer (IPP) unit owned by PT Tanjung Power Indonesia in Tabalong, Kalimantan, resumed full operation on 28 July 2026, two days ahead of schedule. The turbine’s lubrication system repairs were completed early, allowing the plant to feed an additional 100 MW into the Kalimantan Interconnection, strengthening electricity supply for South and Central Kalimantan. General Manager of PLN’s South‑and‑Central Kalimantan network, Iwan Soelistijono, said the swift restart improves system reliability and supports normalisation of power service in the region.

In parallel, PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Penyaluran and Pusat Pengatur Beban (UIP3B) Kalimantan is conducting a “Care For Asset” preventive‑maintenance campaign ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day. Teams inspected the 2 × 100 MW PLTU Kalbar 1 plant operated by PT GCL Indo Tenaga in Bengkayang, as well as associated transmission lines and high‑voltage substations. Manager Darul Irfan highlighted early detection of potential faults, while General Manager Riko Ramadhano Budiawan emphasized the importance of reliable electricity for the national celebrations. The combined actions aim to ensure a stable power supply across the Kalimantan “Equatorial” system during the holiday period.
