Indonesia's PLN freezes electricity tariffs for August 2026

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) decided that PT PLN (Persero) will keep electricity tariffs unchanged for the third quarter of 2026 (July‑September), meaning rates effective on 1 August 2026 will not rise. The decision, announced by Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, aims to preserve consumer purchasing power, support industrial competitiveness and provide certainty for businesses amid global economic volatility.

Under the existing regulation, tariff adjustments for 13 non‑subsidized customer groups are normally reviewed every three months based on the exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price, inflation and the benchmark coal price. Despite the parameters indicating potential changes, the government chose to maintain the rates. The freeze also applies to 24 subsidized categories, including low‑income households, small enterprises and micro‑, small‑ and medium‑sized businesses (UMKM). PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the utility is ready to implement the policy.
