Indonesia's PLN tackles outage in Halmahera, schedules maintenance and holds electricity tariffs steady

PT PLN (Persero) responded quickly to a landslide‑induced outage in Halmahera Selatan, restoring power to 13 villages with temporary supports and planning a permanent pole replacement by 2 July 2026. The company also announced scheduled maintenance that will cause temporary power cuts in Central Java: Ambarawa on 6‑7 July 2026 and Kendal on 6 July 2026, affecting local streets, markets and public facilities.

PLN confirmed that electricity tariffs for the third quarter of 2026 (July‑September) will remain unchanged for all customer groups, in line with a government decision aimed at protecting consumer purchasing power and supporting industrial competitiveness. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the move is “to maintain the buying power of the public and support national economic stability.”

In addition, PLN held its annual PLN Innovation Competition (PLN ICE 2026), partnering with ITS Surabaya to encourage university students to develop electric‑vehicle and energy‑startup solutions. The competition offers more than Rp 2 billion in funding and prizes to foster innovation for Indonesia’s energy transition.
