Indonesia's PLN to halve its business units by 2028

Indonesia's state electricity company PT PLN (Persero) announced plans to cut the number of its group entities from 44 to 23 by 2028. The streamlining will be achieved through consolidation, divestments, portfolio restructuring and simplification of the business structure, aiming to boost operational efficiency, strengthen corporate governance and support national energy security.

The target was outlined in a meeting with PLN executives and coincided with a review of the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) for 2025‑2034. About 1,634 projects – roughly 40 % of the total – have entered the execution stage, including upgrades to Sumatra’s backbone network, new 500 kV, 275 kV and 150 kV transmission lines and added generation capacity. Despite a 59 % drop in net profit last year, PLN’s revenue rose 6.8 %, and the company continues to expand customer connections and improve system reliability.
