Bank Danamon Boosts Foreign Currency Savings and Low‑Cost Funding Amid High Interest Rates

Bank Danamon Indonesia reported a 52 % year‑on‑year increase in foreign‑currency (valas) savings, reaching roughly Rp8.5‑9 trillion. The growth was driven by the Global Currency Card, which lets customers transact in up to 12 currencies, competitive exchange rates and a 25‑35 % rise in foreign‑exchange transaction volume. As the bank’s Consumer Funding & Wealth head Ivan Jaya said, “Tabungan valas kami naik 52 persen secara tahunan…”.

Facing a higher Bank Indonesia policy rate, Danamon is also tightening its cost‑of‑fund (CoF) strategy. It is encouraging customer transactions, especially in foreign exchange, to expand cheap‑fund (CASA) balances. Jaya added, “Kami percaya dengan meningkatkan transaksi dan memberikan layanan transaksi yang lebih baik, kami bisa memperoleh dana murah sehingga dapat memberikan lending rate yang lebih kompetitif kepada masyarakat.”

The bank remains optimistic about third‑party deposit (DPK) growth through a broader business ecosystem that includes automotive, FMCG, education, Japanese property and Hajj/Umrah sectors, alongside digital service enhancements. Danamon aims to keep credit growth at 10‑15 % by the end of 2026 while maintaining strong liquidity ratios.
