Indonesia's PT PAL deepens naval partnerships with Denmark and the United States

State-owned shipbuilder PT PAL Indonesia is expanding its defence cooperation with Denmark and the United States. During a visit by Danish Ambassador Sten Frimodt Nielsen, the two sides highlighted a technology‑transfer programme centred on the Arrowhead 140 design, derived from Denmark’s Iver Huitfeldt‑class frigate and adapted into Indonesia’s Merah Putih‑class ships. PT PAL Technology and Risk Management Director Briljan Gazalba said, "The collaboration between PT PAL and Denmark is built on a strong historical foundation," and noted that Danish maritime technology is being integrated into several PT PAL vessels, including a landing dock for the Philippine Navy scheduled for launch in June 2026.

In a separate meeting, PT PAL hosted U.S. Consul General Christopher Green, who praised the shipyard’s digitalisation and Industry Maritime 4.0 upgrades that have cut build times. Green said the United States sees PT PAL as an "important industrial partner" for regional security, and discussed deeper cooperation on maritime defence, supply‑chain resilience, and maintenance‑repair‑overhaul capabilities. Both partnerships aim to strengthen Indonesia’s domestic defence manufacturing and contribute to stability in the Indo‑Pacific region.
