Indonesia's red bird's eye chili price hits Rp71,600 per kilogram

The National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), overseen by Bank Indonesia, recorded that red bird's eye chili (cabai rawit merah) remained the costliest chili at Rp71,600 per kilogram on Wednesday morning (24 June 2026). Egg prices were listed at Rp29,800 per kilogram, while other chilies traded lower: large red chili at Rp54,950/kg, curly red chili at Rp54,150/kg, and green bird's eye chili at Rp52,300/kg. Staple food prices showed rice ranging from Rp14,500 to Rp17,600 per kilogram depending on quality, and meat prices were Rp36,950/kg for fresh chicken and up to Rp149,850/kg for premium beef. The data underscore continued volatility in Indonesia's essential food and spice markets, with the bird's eye chili standing out as a particularly sensitive commodity.

These price levels are taken from PIHPS observations in Jakarta at 08:53 WIB and reflect nationwide retail rates for key food items, highlighting ongoing inflation pressures on household food budgets.
