Indonesia's Satgas PRR Advances Modern Clean‑Water Services for Disaster‑Hit Communities

The Satgas Percepatan Rehabilitasi dan Rekonstruksi (Satgas PRR) is expanding modern, permanent clean‑water services for residents affected by recent disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. The effort combines the construction of hundreds of borehole wells with large‑capacity water supply systems (SPAM). A steel water‑treatment plant (IPA) of 2 × 50 L/s is being built at the Karang Baru SPAM in Aceh Tamiang; it is about 30 % complete and slated for completion in August 2026, ultimately serving roughly 10,000 households.

In Aceh Utara, the SPAM Langkahan, previously damaged by flooding and sedimentation, has been restored, re‑connecting about 1,500 households. A new SPAM IKK Langkahan with a capacity of 50 L/s is planned to bolster the existing system. Ministry of Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stressed the importance of securing a reliable raw‑water intake to ensure service continuity during both high‑flow and dry periods.

The Ministry of Public Works reports that 280 deep‐bore wells and 70 shallow wells have been installed, with the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) adding another 313 boreholes. The Indonesian Army has built 489 boreholes and 257 public‑toilet facilities, while police forces have contributed hundreds of additional wells. These combined actions aim to provide durable water access and strengthen long‑term resilience for the disaster‑affected communities.
