Indonesia's Speaker Puan Maharani Calls for Water‑Scarcity Preparedness Ahead of 2026 Drought
Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani urged the Indonesian government to adopt preventive measures for an expected extended dry season in 2026. She highlighted the need to secure clean‑water supplies and mitigate impacts on agriculture and public health. The National Disaster Management Agency has reported water‑crisis conditions in three Javanese regencies—Cilacap, Karawang and Bogor—affecting over 1,600 residents. Puan called for both immediate aid and long‑term infrastructure such as rain‑water harvesting systems and infiltration wells, as well as coordinated inter‑agency planning based on risk scenarios and public education for farmers and communities.
