Indonesia's IHSG Index Rises Amid Strong Q2 Growth and Rupiah Gains

Indonesia’s main stock index, the IHSG, opened higher on 5 August 2026 at 6.338, up about 0.30 %, and continued its advance on 6 August, opening at 6.379, up roughly 0.45 %. The index closed modestly higher around 6.351‑6.363, with sectoral strength in banking, commodities, energy and consumer‑cyclical stocks. Technical indicators were mixed, and foreign investors recorded a net sell of roughly Rp 339 billion in the morning session.

The rally was underpinned by Indonesia’s second‑quarter 2026 GDP growth of 5.29 % year‑on‑year, with analysts expecting a 5.3 % increase. Government plans to inject additional fiscal surplus funds into the banking sector and the easing of geopolitical tension over the Hormuz Strait – which pushed global oil prices down about 5 % – also boosted sentiment. The rupiah appreciated to about Rp 17,911‑17,913 per US dollar, reflecting optimism from the Hormuz talks and the strong economic data.

Top gainers on the day included PT Destinasi Tirta Nusantara, PT Indopoly Swakarsa Industry and PT Asiaplast Industries, while PT Bach Multi Global recorded a sharp decline of more than 14 %. Overall, the market’s upward momentum was supported by solid earnings from the first‑half reporting season and a broader rally in Asian and US equity markets.
