Indonesia's subsidized cooking oil sells out in Surabaya bazaar as officials assure steady supply

A government-backed bazaar organized by PT Industri Nabati Lestari (INL), a subsidiary of PTPN IV PalmCo under Holding Perkebunan Nusantara, sold 600 packs of 900 ml cooking oil at Rp15,000 each within an hour in Surabaya's Old Town. The event aimed to expand access to affordable, quality oil and shorten distribution chains, supporting price stability in Java's central and eastern regions.

Meanwhile, the Madiun municipal government warned residents against panic buying, confirming that subsidized "Minyakita" continues to be supplied regularly via Bulog. The retail price remains capped at the government‑set highest retail price of Rp15,700 per liter, and distribution through traditional markets and monitoring systems is scheduled weekly.

Both actions reflect efforts by Indonesian authorities and state‑linked palm oil producers to keep cooking oil affordable and supplies reliable amid broader commodity price volatility.
