Indonesia's UMKM Minister Says Ojek Drivers' Income Stable After 8% Commission Cut

Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Maman Abdurrahman said that the earnings of online motorbike‑taxi (ojek) drivers have not fallen following the government‑mandated commission split of 92 % to drivers and 8 % to platform operators. The statement came after the ministry consulted 19 driver communities and associations across the country, most of which expressed gratitude for the policy introduced under President Prabowo’s initiative.

Maman noted that a small number of drivers reported a brief dip in income during the past week, attributing it to school and university holidays rather than the commission change. Individual drivers such as Reza confirmed higher earnings and welcomed the reduced platform fee, while urging continued monitoring and concrete support programs for ojek drivers classified as UMKM, including stimulus and accelerated access to government assistance. The commission structure took effect in early July 2026 pursuant to Presidential Regulation No. 27/2026 on protection for online transport workers.
