Indonesian Parliament Calls TikTok Shop Over UMKM Fund Withholding

Members of Indonesia’s Commission VII of the DPR, led by Andhika Satya Wasistho, say micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) have suffered losses estimated at around Rp3 trillion after TikTok Shop allegedly withheld sales proceeds. Andhiska warned that “Berdirinya TikTok Shop ini sepertinya dari awal sudah bermasalah,” and urged the commission to protect affected sellers.

The commission plans to summon TikTok Shop, Tokopedia and other marketplaces, along with the ministries of Communication and Digital, Trade and the competition regulator, to address account freezes and fund blocks that began in 2022‑2023 when the platform reportedly operated without a marketplace licence. Lawmakers also discussed forming a special committee to review digital‑market regulations and prevent future incidents.

The DPR’s push aims to secure the return of the frozen funds and establish clearer legal safeguards for UMKM operating in Indonesia’s e‑commerce ecosystem.
