Indonesia's Vice Minister Dahnil Simanjuntak Supports Sharia Economy and Introduces Hajj Health Manasik

Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak praised the continued commitment of national media to promote and safeguard the practice of sharia‑based economic activities in Indonesia. He warned against entities that wear a “sharia mask” while failing to follow genuine principles, saying, “Saya tentu mengapresiasi komitmen Republik dan grup terkait dengan ekonomi syariah… banyak orang yang bertopeng syariah, tetapi kemudian praktiknya tidak syariah.”

He also announced that starting with the 2027 hajj season the Ministry will implement a new “manasik kesehatan” program, providing more rigorous health assessments for pilgrims. The measure follows an evaluation of the 2026 season, which saw a drop in pilgrim deaths to about 360 but was deemed insufficient. Simanjuntak said that candidates who do not meet the health and physical‑capacity criteria may be barred from departure, reflecting a tighter stance on pilgrim readiness.
