Indonesia expands village cooperatives and tightens fortified rice oversight
Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan announced that the Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) program will help rural areas downstream marine and plantation commodities, with land secured for 35,857 facilities and 19,491 already completed. The program envisions cooperatives acting as offtakers linking farmers, fishers and markets, and adding services such as stores, clinics and cold storage.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman pledged to intensify supervision of the fortified‑rice program within the next two to three weeks, warning that any misuse will be prosecuted. The Food Task Force and Badan Pangan Nasional (Bapanas) are investigating alleged label fraud in fortified rice, especially in West Java, to ensure the product’s nutritional claims match laboratory results.
State logistics agency Perum Bulog is scaling up distribution of premium rice to modern retail outlets in Jakarta and Banten, supplying stores such as Hero, Ramayana and Alfamart to keep stocks stable and prices aligned with government guidelines. Bulog also proposed a single‑price policy for rice (SPHP) across Indonesia, backed by a 7 % margin compensation, though economists note logistical challenges in the archipelago.
Gerindra MP Hj. Rahmawati visited a seed centre in Bulungan, highlighting the role of cooperatives in supporting self‑sufficiency and the national food‑security agenda.
