Indonesia's Yusril Mahendra to deliver student demands to President Prabowo

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra will submit a report to President Prabowo Subianto containing the five‑point demand list of the Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI). The demands call for an end to wasteful state‑budget spending, lower prices for basic commodities and fuel, cancellation or improved governance of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) and Red‑and‑White Village Cooperative programs, a halt to the militarization of civilian life, and a presidential acknowledgment of government shortcomings.

During a meeting with BEM SI, Mahendra asked for clarification on the MBG demand, confirming that the board seeks better programme management rather than outright abolition. He reiterated the government's openness to criticism and its commitment to protect freedom of expression, noting that the MBG programme aims to improve nutrition and stimulate local economies through participation of businesses, farmers, fishermen and food suppliers. The students expressed hope that their concerns would be considered in policy revisions.
