Indore student defrauded of 45,500 rupees in work-from-home scam
A student in Indore was defrauded of 45,500 rupees after responding to a work-from-home job advertisement on Instagram. The scammers used various pretexts to solicit multiple payments, including registration fees, security deposits for a laptop, insurance costs, and income tax clearance.
According to the victim, a recruiter contacted her claiming she was shortlisted for the position. One individual posing as a representative of the company Byju's promised to provide a laptop and mobile phone, prompting further payments for security and insurance. After the victim failed to receive an appointment letter and the suspects ceased communication, she filed a complaint with the police. Local authorities are currently investigating the bank accounts and mobile numbers used by the perpetrators.
