Indra eyes León for third armored vehicle factory in Spain

Spanish defence multinational Indra is assessing sites beyond Asturias for a third factory that will produce armored vehicles. After selecting As Pontes in Galicia for its second plant and acquiring the former Gijón workshop, the company is now focusing on León, where local authorities have offered industrial zones such as the Bierzo Alto park and the Bembibre‑El Bayo area.

León’s provincial president Gerardo Álvarez Courel and mayor Silvia Cao have led initiatives to attract the investment, arguing that the region’s available land, transport links and need for re‑industrialisation make it a competitive location. The city council approved a motion supporting the project, while the company has not ruled out other options, including a possible purchase of the Duro Felguera workshop in Langreo.
