Indra to triple 8x8 Dragon combat vehicle production

Indra is significantly increasing its production of the 8x8 Dragon wheeled combat vehicle. CEO Josep Maria Recasens announced that the company plans to triple production, moving from 40 units in 2025 to 100 units delivered by September 2026. The Dragon program is a key modernization project for the Spanish Army, with 78% of its content being locally sourced.

Additionally, Indra is working on the integration of the K9 self-propelled howitzer. While the first 35 units will come from South Korea, the 36th unit will be manufactured entirely in Spain, with Indra assuming design authority to facilitate future international exports. To support this growth, Indra is launching a 200 million euro investment plan to build six new factories and quadruple its production area to nearly 150,000 square meters.

During the Indudef defense fair in Córdoba, industry leaders also discussed the need to accelerate research, development, and manufacturing cycles. Participants emphasized that Spanish defense companies, including SMEs, must improve collaboration and speed up acquisition procedures to remain competitive and leverage European investment cycles.
