Indra defense industry expansion in Spain

Overview

Indra is significantly scaling its military manufacturing capabilities in Spain. The company announced plans to triple the production of its 8x8 Dragon wheeled combat vehicle, aiming to increase output from 40 units in 2025 to 100 units by September 2026. This growth is supported by a 200 million euro investment plan to build six new factories and quadruple its production area.

Following these announcements, Indra inaugurated a new military vehicle manufacturing plant in As Pontes, Galicia. This 18 million euro facility, located in the Penapurreira industrial park, covers nearly 15,000 square meters and is designed to become one of Europe’s largest industrial hubs for land platforms. The plant will focus on integrating amphibious combat vehicles, bridge-laying vehicles, and wheeled artillery systems for the Spanish Armed Forces. This expansion aligns with efforts to secure major defense contracts, such as the 1,970 million euro Vehículo de Apoyo de Cadenas (VAC) program.
