Indra unveils Drizzle interceptor drones to counter mass drone attacks

Indra has unveiled the Drizzle family of autonomous interceptor drones, designed to counter mass drone attacks and loitering munitions. Presented at the UNVEX trade fair in Spain, the system is intended to protect infrastructure, convoys, and deployed units through a low-cost, expendable approach.

The individual interceptors can reach speeds exceeding 400 km/h with a range of approximately 80 km. To extend operational reach, Indra developed a mothership drone that can carry multiple Drizzle interceptors. The mothership can fly at altitudes of up to 30,000 feet for 80 km before releasing the interceptors, which then cover an additional 50 km, resulting in a total system range of about 130 km.

The system utilizes electro-optical and infrared sensors combined with real-time data processing to identify, discriminate, and lock onto targets during the terminal phase of engagement. Indra plans to integrate radar in future development phases to enhance autonomous detection. The Drizzle can function as a hard-kill effector within existing counter-UAS systems or be mounted on vehicles and helicopters for self-protection. Additionally, a smaller version capable of being launched from a customized gun has been demonstrated.
