Industrial cybersecurity standards see new certifications for CIP Security and Advantech
The industrial automation sector has seen significant progress in cybersecurity compliance with new certifications under the IEC 62443-4-2 standard.
ODVA announced that CIP Security has received formal certification from TÜV Rheinland, meeting Security Level Capability 3 (SL-C 3) requirements. This level is designed to protect against intentional violations by attackers with moderate resources and specific industrial automation and control system (IACS) skills. CIP Security provides data integrity, authentication, authorization, and encryption for EtherNet/IP products.
Separately, Advantech’s AFE-E630 embedded edge industrial system has passed a third-party assessment by DEKRA, meeting Security Level 2 (SL2) requirements of the IEC 62443-4-2 standard. The AFE-E630 is utilized in energy management systems, microgrid controllers, and industrial edge gateways. These certifications assist manufacturers in navigating increasing regulatory demands, such as the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
