Industrial strike in Tuscany sees thousands march in Florence

Thousands of workers marched in Florence as part of a regional industrial strike organized by the CGIL, CISL and UIL unions. The procession started at Piazza Bambine e bambini di Beslan and moved to the prefecture on Via Cavour, where final rallies were held.

City mayor Sara Funaro, Scandicci mayor Claudia Sereni and regional labor assessor Alessandra Nardini attended, as did union leaders including national secretaries Michele De Palma (FIOM) and Ferdinando Uliano (FIM). Despite high temperatures, participation was strong, with factories such as Dumarey, Magna, Pierburg, Trigano and Menci reporting attendance rates of 90% or higher, while the Sammontana plant in Empoli was closed.

Union representatives highlighted the scale of the crisis, noting “around 15,000 workers are on CIG” and that “more than 20,000 layoffs have occurred in the past five years.” They called for both public and private investment, digital innovation and greater networking among small firms to revive the region’s industry and prevent further economic decline.
