IndyCar Weekend Adds Washington D.C. Street Race and Announces GR Cup 2027 Schedule
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend in Washington D.C. will feature an exhibition race of the revived International Race of Champions (IROC) series on a 1.7‑mile street circuit that runs past the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. Former NASCAR Hall of Famers Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace and Bill Elliott will compete alongside IndyCar champions such as Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti. The event is free to the public and will be followed by the NTT IndyCar Series race the next day.
Toyota’s GR Cup North America series will return to the Grand Prix of Arlington during the IndyCar weekend, with a 14‑race 2027 calendar that includes stops at Sonoma Raceway, Circuit of The Americas, Watkins Glen International, Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Road America and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The single‑make series, run by SRO America, will again align its events with other SRO America weekends, expanding its presence across major U.S. circuits.
