INE President's driver linked to investigated electoral supplier

President Claudia Sheinbaum has called for transparency within the National Electoral Institute (INE) following reports of potential conflicts of interest involving the organization's leadership and its suppliers.

Investigations reveal that Jonathan Navarrete Torres, who has served as the driver for INE President Guadalupe Taddei since April 2025, has held a general power of attorney for Corporativo Zeg since June 2023. Corporativo Zeg is an electoral materials supplier owned by brothers Alfredo and Raymundo Hernández. The company, along with its affiliate Cajas Graf, has been under investigation by the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) for alleged links to organized crime, resulting in frozen accounts. Additionally, the Federal Auditor (ASF) is reviewing their operations for irregularities, and the Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece) opened an investigation into potential monopolistic practices in May 2024.

The controversy also involves Jesús Octavio García González, a former legal representative for Corporativo Zeg who served as the INE's Director of Administration until April. Reports indicate that both Zeg and Cajas Graf have secured significant contracts in various states, including Oaxaca and Chihuahua, during periods when officials associated with Taddei held leadership roles in those regional electoral bodies.
