INEC begins PVC distribution and voter register display in Nigeria
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and the display of the voter register in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In the FCT, the exercise is being conducted at 62 Registration Area Centres and will move to six area council offices starting October 16, 2026.
Nationally, INEC expects to distribute 10.6 million PVCs, primarily to citizens who registered in 2025 or those replacing damaged cards. INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan stated that the commission is implementing technological enhancements to prevent the use of stolen or compromised cards.
Nigeria’s current voter register exceeds 103 million people. The FCT alone has 1,772,043 registered voters. Demographic data shows that male voters constitute 51.75 per cent of the national register, while females represent 48.25 per cent. The largest age demographic is between 35 and 49, accounting for approximately 41.83 per cent of registrants.
