INEC omits key PDP and NDC candidates from 2027 governorship lists

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the February 6, 2027, governorship elections, sparking significant political disputes due to several high-profile omissions.

In Gombe State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, was excluded from the list. Pantami’s campaign team has described the omission as a “temporary challenge” and is engaging with INEC and the PDP to rectify the situation. In Ogun State, the PDP’s candidate, Ladi Adebutu, and his running mate were also omitted. Adebutu maintains that he completed all digital registration requirements within the stipulated period and has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) pressured INEC to exclude him.

In Kano State, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) reported that its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, was missing from the final list. The NDC attributed the omission to a computer glitch at INEC and expressed confidence that the error would be corrected. These developments come as political parties navigate legal challenges and membership registration requirements ahead of the 2027 polls.
