Inefficient meetings are identified as a major drain on workplace productivity. According to a study by Atlassian involving 5,000 knowledge workers, 72 percent of meetings are perceived as ineffective. Furthermore, 54 percent of respondents reported leaving meetings without clear understanding of next steps or assigned responsibilities.

The Microsoft Work Trend Index also classifies inefficient meetings as the primary obstacle to daily productivity. Experts, including negotiation specialist Dr. Heidi Z’graggen from the consultancy URimpuls, emphasize that meetings often fail due to a lack of clarity, excessive discussions, and postponed decisions.

To mitigate these issues, professionals recommend rigorous preparation and a strict focus on outcomes. Effective leadership requires structuring meetings so that specific questions are answered, decisions are reached, and responsibilities are clearly defined before the session concludes.
