Turkey inflation rate reaches 31.51% in August

Turkey's Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.84% in August compared to the previous month, bringing the annual inflation rate to 31.51%. Key sectors driving these increases included housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, which saw a 39.77% annual rise, followed by transportation at 35.08% and food and non-alcoholic beverages at 33.79%.

As a result of these figures, the legal ceiling for rent increases in September has been set at 31.79%, based on the 12-month average of the CPI. The cumulative inflation for July and August reached approximately 3.65%, a figure that will impact upcoming salary adjustments for civil servants and retirees in January 2027.

While official figures show a slight deceleration in the annual rate, the Inflation Research Group (ENAG) provided a significantly higher estimate, calculating annual inflation at 49.03% for August. Additionally, the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) rose by 27.95% annually, indicating continued pressure on production costs.
