Amir Shokeen remanded to five-day police custody over racial abuse video
A Delhi court has remanded social media influencer Amir Shokeen to five days of police custody in connection with a video allegedly depicting the racial harassment and humiliation of a youth from Tripura. The Tis Hazari Court granted the remand after Shokeen’s initial one-day judicial custody expired.
Delhi Police stated that the extended custody is necessary to recover a mobile phone and to travel to Ahmedabad to identify and arrest other individuals seen in the video. The investigation, handled by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit, follows a video recorded approximately one month ago.
The victim, a 19-year-old housekeeping staff member in Ahmedabad, had previously expressed that he pardoned Shokeen after the influencer issued an unconditional apology. However, police proceeded with the investigation following significant public and political pressure. Shokeen has maintained that the video was a scripted, humorous interaction and that he had no intention of causing insult.
