Influencer José Luis Esparza shot dead in Ciudad Obregón

Mexican influencer José Luis Esparza, widely known online as ‘El Piturris’, was fatally shot on September 10 in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. The 37-year-old was at his family’s restaurant, ‘Los Güichos’, when an armed individual opened fire. Esparza was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Authorities have reported a breakthrough in the investigation. On September 14, two men aged 21 and 26 were arrested. During the arrests, investigators seized several weapons. Ballistic testing indicated that one of the recovered pistols was used in the attack on Esparza and was also linked to another homicide occurring the previous day.

The Sonora State Attorney General’s Office is currently investigating the murder as a potential consequence of conflicts between groups involved in local drug trafficking.
