Influenza A cases rise in Vietnam, increasing risk of severe complications
Influenza A cases are on the rise in Vietnam during the seasonal transition, posing significant risks of severe complications such as pneumonia and respiratory failure. Medical facilities in Hanoi are reporting an average of 200 to 300 influenza cases per week.
Doctors at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases have noted several severe cases, particularly among the elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions. One 72-year-old patient with a history of hypertension and stroke required intensive respiratory support due to severe lung damage and infection. Another 73-year-old patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) was hospitalized with serious respiratory distress after testing positive for the virus.
Medical experts warn that the severity of Influenza A cannot be judged solely by fever levels. For vulnerable groups, the virus can exacerbate existing conditions and lead to rapid respiratory decline. Healthcare providers advise the public to proactively prevent infection, use medications correctly, and recognize early warning signs of worsening symptoms.
