Infra S.A. to complete Transnordestina feasibility study by year-end
Infra S.A. expects to finish the technical, economic, and environmental feasibility studies for the Pernambuco section of the Transnordestina Railway by the end of this year. The company is working to meet requirements set by the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) to justify public investment for the stretch between Salgueiro and the Port of Suape.
The TCU previously suspended construction on this specific branch, demanding updated studies to prove socioeconomic viability before physical works can resume. While the court's restrictions allow for ongoing bidding processes and contract signings, the actual execution of construction remains halted.
Jorge Bastos, president of Infra S.A., stated that the company is in discussions with TCU Minister Jhonatan de Jesus to facilitate the resumption of works. Bastos argued that the project's value should be measured by social and logistical benefits rather than immediate financial returns, noting that public funding could make the route viable for future private concessions.
