The study, expected to be completed in December, is a partnership between the Rio Grande do Norte State Secretariat of Planning, Budget, and Management (Seplan/RN) and the Superintendency for the Development of the Northeast (Sudene). Coordinated by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and the United Nations Development Programme (PNUD), the study aims to establish a definitive route, technical characteristics, and investment estimates for a potential link via Mossoró, Apodi, and Pau dos Ferros to Iguatu, Ceará. In October 2026, Infra S.A. announced it expects to complete feasibility studies for the Pernambuco section of the railway by the end of the year.
