Infrastructure and security developments reported in Ecuador and Costa Rica

In Ecuador, Lowell Mineral Exploration Ecuador conducted road maintenance works throughout August in the Limón–Warints corridor within Morona Santiago. The interventions focused on critical points in San Juan, Pirisho, and Victoria to improve mobility for local communities.

Key activities included the transport and placement of improvement materials, road reshaping to address weather-related damage, and the cleaning of the Shiramentza river ford. Additionally, teams cleared approximately 5.27 kilometers of vegetation and removed six landslides in the Victoria sector to enhance visibility and transit safety.

In Costa Rica, the Municipality of Limón received an award from the Instituto de Fomento y Asesoría Municipal (IFAM) for its innovative citizen security system. Under the leadership of Mayor Ana Matarrita McCall, the municipality expanded its video protection network from 20 cameras in 2024 to 132 devices.

The new system utilizes artificial intelligence and forensic analysis tools to identify specific characteristics of people and vehicles. The municipality also strengthened its operational capacity with a new vehicle fleet and motorcycles donated by the United States Embassy to serve the districts of Limón, Matama, Río Blanco, and Valle La Estrella.
