Infrastructure and transit updates in Cameroon and the DRC

Major road routes in Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have seen recent developments regarding accessibility and security.

In Cameroon, the Dschang cliff section (R0606) between Bafoussam and Santchou has reopened as of October 1, 2026. The road had been closed since a fatal landslide in November 2024, forcing travelers to use lengthy detours through Melong and Bafang. The Ministry of Public Works confirmed that the construction company CFHEC completed stabilization works, including a reinforced concrete retaining wall, a drainage system, and hydraulic structures to mitigate future landslide risks in the mountainous region.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, traffic has resumed on the RN17 between Mongata and Bandundu following a period of insecurity in the Kwamouth territory. While the pacification commission has enabled the free movement of agricultural and manufactured goods toward Kinshasa, travelers report new difficulties. Reports indicate the presence of multiple military checkpoints between Masiambio and Mongata, where travelers claim they are being required to pay fees ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 FC to pass.
