Çiğli Mayor's official vehicle targeted in armed attack

A 21-year-old suspect, identified as K. S., was apprehended after an armed attack on the official vehicle of Çiğli Mayor Onur Emrah Yıldız. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Çiğli Municipality building in İzmir.

The suspect arrived at the scene on a stolen motorcycle and fired 3-4 shots at the mayor's parked vehicle. The vehicle was empty at the time of the attack, and no injuries were reported. Following the shots, the suspect attempted to flee but was intercepted by municipal security personnel and subsequently handed over to police units.

Utku Gümrükçü, the CHP İzmir Provincial Chair, condemned the attack as a “threat to democracy” and an “act against the free will of the people.” Authorities have launched a wide-scale investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting.
