Infrastructure comparison highlights Dutch road and cycling quality

A resident of Germany's Ruhr area has used social media to contrast the infrastructure of the Netherlands with that of North Rhine-Westphalia. Martin Ganskow noted that during his travels in the Netherlands, he encountered no potholes and found the roads to be smooth and the bridges to be well-maintained.

Ganskow specifically praised the Dutch cycling network, describing it as highly integrated and continuous. He contrasted this with the cycling paths in his home region, which he characterized as inconsistent and often ending abruptly without warning.

In the Netherlands, there are approximately 23 million bicycles, exceeding the human population. The country maintains about 35,000 kilometers of dedicated cycling paths, contributing to a system where bicycles serve as a primary mode of transport for roughly one-quarter of all trips.
