Infrastructure damage causes road closures in Mazatlán and Puerto Morelos
Infrastructure issues have led to road closures and safety concerns in Mazatlán and Puerto Morelos.
In Mazatlán, a subsidence in the asphalt on Emilio Barragán Avenue has forced the temporary closure of the southbound to northbound lane. The closure is located near the ASIPONA wall, specifically between 21 de Marzo Street and the Isla de la Piedra pier. Authorities have implemented two-way traffic on the northbound to southbound lane to maintain mobility while repairs are conducted. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes such as Ignacio Zaragoza and Gabriel Leyva avenues.
In Puerto Morelos, a significant potable water leak caused by a pipe collapse has resulted in pavement cracking and ground subsidence at the intersection of Joaquín Zetina Gasca Avenue and Delfín Street. The leak involves four- and six-inch lines supplying the Villas Morelos and Villas La Playa areas. Local officials have cordoned off the perimeter to protect pedestrians and motorists while the company Aguakan works to locate and repair the rupture. Officials noted that recent rainfall may have contributed to soil saturation and the subsequent pipe failure.
