Infrastructure delays reported in Reggio Calabria and Naples

In Reggio Calabria, the reconstruction of the Giulio Campagna sports facility, known as the ‘Palloncino’, has stalled again. The project, funded by 3 million euros from the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), faced initial delays due to the need to relocate an Enel electrical substation. Although the 500-day completion deadline passed in April 2025, the site remains inactive with unfinished concrete and fencing as of late 2026.

In Naples, public transport accessibility is under scrutiny following the prolonged failure of the elevator at the Corso Vittorio Emanuele station of the Central Funicular. The elevator has been out of service since early July 2026. Deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli has called on ANM to provide a definitive restoration date and to conduct a comprehensive audit of all elevators within the city's public transport network, noting that similar outages have occurred on Line 1 and EAV lines, significantly impacting citizens with disabilities and parents with strollers.
