Infrastructure development efforts advance in Gabon and Nigeria

Infrastructure development is a primary focus in both Gabon and Nigeria, with officials overseeing significant road and public works projects to improve regional and urban connectivity.

In Gabon, Minister of Public Works Edgard Moukoumbi recently inspected road construction in the Ogooué-Ivindo region. Key projects include the Makokou — Okondja and Makokou-Mekambo axes, which are intended to support local economic growth. To address a road collapse between Ovan and Koumameyong, the government is establishing a detour while repairs are conducted. Plans are also in place for the bitumage of the Makokou — Mekambo-Ekata road.

In Nigeria, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike is preparing to commission over ten major infrastructure projects scheduled for late 2026 and early 2027. These initiatives aim to expand roads, bridges, water infrastructure, and public buildings beyond Abuja's city center into satellite towns and developing districts to ensure broader access to high-quality infrastructure.
