African regional infrastructure and development

African nations continue to pursue diverse infrastructure, connectivity, and diplomatic development initiatives. In Gabon and Nigeria, efforts have focused on physical public works. Gabon is advancing road construction in the Ogooué-Ivindo region, including the Makokou — Okondja and Makokou-Mekambo axes. In Nigeria, the Federal Capital Territory is preparing to commission projects involving roads, bridges, and water infrastructure. Development efforts have expanded to include financing and international connectivity. Benin has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to facilitate funding for energy, transport, and agriculture as part of its development vision through 2060. In Côte d'Ivoire, aviation connectivity is increasing through partnerships with Brazilian airline TAG, while the Port of Abidjan is collaborating with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on a cereal terminal. Additionally, the second IMPACT IA conference was launched to promote national artificial intelligence capabilities. Diplomatic and digital initiatives are also emerging. In Abidjan, the UN Economic Commission for Africa and UNFPA launched a digital monitoring platform to track the African Union roadmap on the demographic dividend. In Central Africa, Cameroon is partnering with the European Union on the Sustainable Ocean Programme to protect marine ecosystems. Burundi has launched a regional forum in Bujumbura, co-organized with UNESCO and the ECCAS, to promote a culture of peace, though its Foreign Minister, Édouard Bizimana, has called for diplomatic solutions regarding the reported mistreatment of Burundian traders in Kenya. In Burkina Faso, Moctar Sanfo was appointed Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism. In Senegal, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has intensified efforts toward economic recovery and territorializing public policies.
