Infrastructure developments advance in Serbia and Republika Srpska

Infrastructure projects are advancing in the Balkans, focusing on both rail modernization and road safety. In Serbia, Infrastruktura železnice Srbije has launched an international tender for the reconstruction of the Paraćin to Trupala section of the Belgrade-Niš railway. This 77-kilometer segment is part of a larger 230-kilometer project valued at 2.8 billion euros. Funding includes 600 million euros in grants from the European Union, 1.1 billion euros from the European Investment Bank, 550 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and 550 million euros from the Serbian state. The project aims to allow train speeds of up to 200 km/h by 2030.

In Republika Srpska, the public enterprise Putevi Republike Srpske is implementing a safety project for school zones on main and regional roads. Funded by World Bank grants, the initiative will install modern LED signage, fluorescent yellow signs, protective pedestrian fences, and preventive radars that display real-time speed warnings. The project defines a school zone as a one-kilometer stretch encompassing 500 meters before and after school buildings. This is part of a broader safety strategy aiming for zero child fatalities in traffic by 2035.
