Development and infrastructure projects in the Balkans
Overview
Developmental initiatives in Serbia and Republika Srpska have expanded to cover green economy transitions and large-scale infrastructure projects.
In the environmental sector, the ‘Green Jobs’ project in Republika Srpska, supported by the European Union and the International Labour Organization, is providing vocational training and support to vulnerable groups in sectors like agriculture and forestry. Simultaneously, the UNDP has opened a call for green investments in Serbia to assist with decarbonization and biodiversity protection.
Infrastructure efforts have also progressed, with Serbia launching an international tender for the Belgrade-Niš railway reconstruction, a multi-billion euro project involving significant EU and international bank funding. In Republika Srpska, road safety improvements are being implemented in school zones through World Bank-funded projects involving modern signage and speed warning technology.
