Infrastructure investment firms EIG and AIIB expand capital mobilization
EIG has raised $4 billion through its direct lending platform, surpassing its initial $3 billion target. This fundraising includes the $1.9 billion close of the EIG Senior Infrastructure Debt Fund VI, which is nearly double the size of its predecessor. The fund focuses on senior secured debt for power generation, renewable energy, and energy transition infrastructure, primarily in the United States and Europe.
Separately, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is developing a new platform to pool capital from institutional investors. The initiative aims to quadruple the amount of private capital mobilized for infrastructure projects across Asia. The mechanism will allow insurers and pension funds to co-invest in infrastructure debt on a programmatic basis. This move addresses a significant infrastructure funding gap in Asia, which is estimated to reach up to $700 billion annually.
